Why We Raise Grass-Fed Beef at Crooked Horn Ranch

Crooked Horn Ranch raises 100% grass-fed beef with a focus on traditional ranching, whole-animal respect, and honest butchery. When you reserve beef with us, you're choosing more than cuts — you're choosing transparency, stewardship, and food raised the right way.

Our Commitment to the Land

At Crooked Horn Ranch, we believe good beef begins in the pasture — not in a feedlot. Our cattle are raised on open grass, allowed to graze naturally, and finished without grain. This slower, more traditional approach produces beef with deeper flavour and clean, firm fat.

We do not rush the process. Ranching follows seasons, weather, and land cycles — and we respect that rhythm.

What this means for you:

What “Grass-Fed” Really Means

The term grass-fed can sometimes be misunderstood. For us, it means:

 1. Cattle are raised on pasture from start to finish.

 2. Animals are never confined in industrial feedlots.

 3. Growth follows natural maturity timelines.

 4. The entire animal is valued and utilized.

It does not mean shortcuts, heavy processing, or artificial speed. We believe in doing things the long way because it’s the right way.

Respecting the Whole Animal

When you reserve beef with Crooked Horn Ranch, you’re not shopping from a warehouse shelf. You are selecting how your portion of a real animal is prepared.

That includes:

 • Steaks cut to your preferred thickness

 • Roasts sized to your family’s needs

 • Ground beef packaged the way you choose

 • Soup bones and extras, if requested

This system respects both the animal and the work behind raising it.

Some modern food systems encourage waste and convenience. We prefer responsibility and clarity.

Mass production may be faster — but it’s not how we operate.

Traditional Fat, Traditional Cooking

One of the most overlooked parts of grass-fed beef is the quality of the fat. Properly raised beef produces clean, stable fat that has been used for generations in traditional cooking.

Rendered beef tallow is:

 • Excellent for high-heat cooking

 • Naturally stable

 • Rich in flavour

 • A return to simpler kitchen practices

It’s how our grandparents cooked — and we see value in returning to what works.

Why It Matters

Food should feel honest. It should have a clear origin, a clear process, and clear communication.

At Crooked Horn Ranch, we stand by:

 • Transparency

 • Stewardship

 • Traditional butchery

 • Respect for the animal

 • Respect for the customer

If you have questions about our practices or how the cutting process works, we’re always glad to talk. Ranching isn’t about trends — it’s about responsibility.

And that’s something we take seriously.
